月宵 Tsukiyoi

And now something very different from the previous blogs at The Pink Spider Web
The duo – 月宵 Tsukiyoi
with Kou on the Japanese string instrument koto 箏 and vocals , and Tetsu on keyboards and digital equipment

020315_Tsukiyoi_club_asia_30000_906Their music is magical, electronic and certainly made possible through the use of contemporary digital equipment, yet the use of the koto instrument, as well as Kou’s stage costume,
there’s no doubt that this also carries a long tradition of Japanese stage performance.
Their sense of aesthetics is certainly pleasing for anyone regardless of where you are from.
Their melodies are rooted in Japan, yet amazingly international and universal in nature.

They write so beautiful about their passion for music on their facebook page,
so the Pink Spider Web will quote it here:

  • We believe that music has a magical power to shorten the time it takes for us to learn from one other, to grow together, and to foster a genuine understanding amongst peoples and nations. What’s necessary is to first eliminate the invisible barriers between us. Music can be a way to break these walls down.
  • We would like to articulate and transmit our message and ideas to people throughout the world in order to form a strong connection with others.
  • Through the richness of Japanese culture and history, we hope “Tsukiyoi” can be a catalyst for a better understanding amongst peoples.
    Yes, this is our dream.

Kou’s vocals are dreamy at times, and upbeat at times. It’s as if their songs captures our
emotional sways as humans…or maybe like flying and seeing the world below
… as One United world….
Take a listen to the video below, which contains a little sample from some of the songs performed at club asia, Tokyo February 3
The koto, the vocals, the keyboards, the digital sounds..in a dreamy soundscape at times
and as electronica or dance music at other times….
The duo has won several awards and have performed abroad several times
for ex. at Japan Expo in France 2014
